Doornation on Instagram

I have always been a lover of doors and windows and everything that comes with the two. Every time I travel these are some of the things I actually notice on buildings and architectural wonders across Asia and the Americas. I decided to start an Instagram Gallery of all the doors, of beauty and character, that I encounter throughout my everyday life and memorable trips.

All these photographs featured at @doornation are all my shots using both my Nikon D3100 and Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime.

Seven Wanders - San Diego, California

Seven Wanders - Arrival at Oceanside, California

During my trip to the USA last June to July 2015, I spent almost two weeks in San Diego, California. My first stop from Los Angeles was the San Diego city of Oceanside. I visited my niece Vanessa and we had a great time at the beach. after a couple of days they drove me to my aunt at South San Diego where I spent a whole week.
Seven Wanders - San Juan Fiesta at San Diego

On June 24th, we celebrated the feast of Saint John the Baptist at National City. We had a great time at the feast and the traditional karakol was danced around the venue. It was a really great celebration even if I was a thousand miles away, I felt so much at home!

Seven Wanders - Calle Crisologo at Night

Seven Wanders - Calle Crisologo at Night

On my first episode of Seven Wanders, I am featuring the beautiful and historically preserved Calle Crisologo on the city of Vigan in the province of Ilocos Sur. I have crossed this street several times on different occasions in my life but this was the first time I saw it on a rainy night. It has this wonderful magic that made it look more spectacular as the cobbled stones were wet by the silent rain.

Seven Wanders is a new segment on my blog which features my Travel VLogs (Video logs) shot on location during my trips here and across the globe. Stay tuned for more episodes of Seven Wanders coming to you through Steven Que Blog and through my YouTube Channel.

Special thanks to one of my dear friend Miss Yen Melo for the amazing tagline for this new segment. For those who haven't heard yet, my closest friends and family calls me on my old nickname Seven. And so Sis Yen did some word play and came up with Seven Wanders!

Heroes for Children Run 2015

I ran 10K with Anne Curtis

It was a beautiful early Sunday Morning when we arrived at SM Mall of Asia grounds at around 4 in the morning. The Half-Marathoners just left at their gun start minutes before we parked our car. Still it was dark but the energy was so high as we all line up and assembled, waiting for our 5 am gun-start. Luis Manzano led the opening and commenced the beginning of the run. When the countdown started, we all ran with smile son our faces and fire on our hearts.

Ethelites Runners: Judy, Myrcel, R-Jay, Steven, and Lea

Heroes for Children Run 2015 was organised by Miss Anne Curtis, a Filipina Celebrity who is also a United Nations Ambassador for Children, for the beneift of UNICEF or United Nations Children's Fund. Held last Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds with 4 categories including a Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K, and a 500 meter run for little children.

Our run started at 5:00 am for 10K runners

The troop at the Finish Line

The run was really fun with celebrities including the organiser herself Anne Curtis and her friends Karylle, Jhong Hilario, DingdongDantes, Solenn Heussaff, and a lot more. Right after the runs were all over, there was a mini concert held at the Parking Area.

My 4th Running Medal

Exhausted but still standing strong

My singlet size did not fit me well because it was a size smaller than I expected so I just wore my old but very reliable and comfortable NatGeoRun 2015 singlet. It was so much fun and I can't help but do my crab pose at the finish line marker.

My Crab Pose at the Finish Line, I made it!

To be able to run and practice the only sport I knew all my life, and at the same time, help and be a hero for children, it just feels amazing. In just two weeks, I have another run with my friends lined up also at the SM Mall of Asia Running Grounds and I am so excited for it. Another race, another medal, another great experience to add up to my big rucksack of memories.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Anne Curtis and all the sponsors and crew for organising this event for it did not just gave us a venue for our sport but most importantly, an opportunity to be of help, to be a hero to children. I'm looking forward for the 2nd leg of this awesome event next year.

Looking forward for my next run

JSV Reunion at Lola Bebang's Funeral

Last Thursday, October 16th, our beloved Grandmother, Lola Bebang, was laid to rest on her grave at the Saint Francis Memorial Park in General Trias, Cavite. After the funeral, my group of cousins, the JSV had a little reunion and we took a lot of pictures together on the grassy meadows just beside the memorial park.

JSV is our group of cousins formed about two decades ago with the younger group of the Que Family's Third Generation. Cousins Judy, Steve, Carlos, and Caren and together with our nieces Vanessa, Patricia, Kaley, and the youngest Abrielle.

Here are some of our shots at the memorial park. Photo Credits to my dear cousin Miss Caren Viniegra. Visit her blog at http://dreamingoutloud-x.blogspot.com.

It was truly a sad moment for us to send our Grandma to her final resting place but her memories and unwavering love will forever linger in our hearts. As long as we live, the JSV cousins will love each other and be there for each other, the biggest remembrance of our grandma's love that bounds us in the first place.

Hollywood, California

Me with the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles, California, USA

Located at the central region region of Los Angeles, California. Famous for it is the home of the Entertainment Industry, not just in America but also throughout the world. It is also one of the attractions that I visited during my week-long stay at my Auntie Beth's.

Me and my cool Auntie Beth at the Hollywood Sign

Auntie Beth is probably the coolest and grooviest Aunt I ever had! She is so kind just like her mother Lola Onor which is also a fountain of love and kindness. Even if we grew miles apart, she has always been there for me. Thank you so much Auntie Beth! I can't wait to see you again.

The Famous Roosevelt Hotel of Hollywood

Roosevelt Hotel is a historical hotel which was built during the 1920's and is famous as filming locations for a lot of movies and TV shows. Located at Hollywood Boulevard, this hotel is rumored to be haunted with alleged sightings of several ghosts including celebrities such as Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe. Whether it is true or not, I just can't deny that I was so amazed seeing it in front of me as we walked along the street.

Russell Crowe's Star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame was really an amazing experience for these are the places I can only see in Entertainment news on TV and on the Internet. Seeing Stars dedicated to my favorite actors like Julie Andrews, Russell Crowe, and so much more gives me so much joy! I just can't believe I was at that very place at that very time.

Me at the Chinese Theatre, Hollywood, California, USA

Another famous landmark along the Hollywood walk was the Chinese Theatre. A historic theatre which has just been converted into an IMAX theatre just a few years ago. It seats 932 people and hosts North America's third largest commercial movie screen. In front of the theatre doors are handprints of famous people.

Meryl Streep

The Timeless Julie Andrews

Again I was struck by my all time favorite actresses Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews who has just celebrated her 80th birthday a few days ago. The handprints of the Harry Potter trio Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson who I grew up with were also there.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint of the Harry Potter Movies

Along the Hollywood Walk of Fame were hundreds of Street Performers and people in costumes, most of them look really cool! Spiderman, at least three Michael Jacksons were there but for me the coolest was Superman! He looked so handsome and so huge just like a real Superman, too bad I wasn't able to take pictures with them because there were just so many people.

A Street Performing group along the Hollywood Walk of Fame

It was a great experience being there at Hollywood but of course it will never be as fun and exciting without my family! Auntie Beth and her family and of course my dearest Mama Vicky and my cousin Vigie. I will never forget those moments, actually, after 4 months I can still picture it perfectly in my memory.

Thank you so much Auntie Beth, Mama Vicky, and Vigie for giving me a great Los Angeles experience and being one with the famous in Hollywood. I wish I can visit again in the near future not just those places, but most especially, my family there. I just can't wait to have more bonding moments with them soon!

Nine Rules on Being a Better Friend

Rule #1 - You are Not Alone, and so are They.

God gave us the gift of friendship for we may never feel alone no matter what. We may find ourselves far from our family, but we can always make friends. And the best thing that anyone can do it to be there for them through joy and sadness. And also, at the same time, always remember that you have friends that you can count on. If you have always been there for them, they will surely be happy to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or just plain ears to listen to you.

Rule #2 - Honesty and Sincerity are Keys

Being a friend requires one to be truthful to their friends. Staying honest at all times, even at dark days where it will hurt to tell the truth. In able for one to grow more mature and responsible is to look from within and friends can be a great mirror to check on your wrongs and errors. In the end, being truthful will earn you much appreciation from your friends for it will not just make them better but keep them standing still.

ETHELITES - My friends Since Kindergarten, to High School, until Forever

Rule #3 - Friends are Family that We Chose

Always remember that friends come and go, but those that we keep are matters of our own choices. Shall we choose who we'll be friends with? Definitely! I for one chose my circle especially during my college days. I chose to be with people who I know will bring me closer to being a better me and will help me achieve our common set of goals. I can proudly say that I am proud with the friends I chose because at the moment, 5 years after graduation, we all have our own careers and we all are happy with it. Remember in Mathematics, multiplying a positive number with a negative number will produce another negative number. So better be with people who secretes positivity and joy.

Rule #4 - They are Treasures, Take Good Care of Them

Yes they have always been and we know for sure they will be there for us in the long run. So use that fact to give back all your love and support for them. They don't need to be given expensive gifts or be with them on luxurious trips, but making sure you help them grow and give them your full support is a great present for their golden hearts! Time may come that we may be poor in money, but having true and great friends will never makes us hungry, literally and metaphorically. And most of all, never ever abuse their love and kindness.

SURVIVORS - My friends through College and Beyond

Rule #5 - Distance makes the bonds stronger

In the present time, we know that people and relationships are easier to maintain due to the advancements in technology like the Internet and Social Media. But that is not really what distance means in this context. No matter how far apart friends may be, no matter how long they haven't talked to each other, as long as you both believe you are friends, then you will always be friends. (But of course we love to get in touch from time to time don't we?)

Rule #6 - "To be Understood as to Understand"

We may have heard of this famous line from the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. These words doesn't just fit for a beautiful prayer but also to being a friend. We wrong at times, and so are our friends. But mistakes are part of life and so as relationships, including friendship. Little misunderstanding shouldn't be left unkempt, but in after a small matter of time, should be talked about and fixed. Besides, it should be much easier since you are friends! Take a big chunk of pride out and surely, you guys will be friends again in no time, stronger and wiser. In time, you'll both see yourselves just laughing about those issues.

Rule #7 - Be Sensitive, Friends are People, Not Stones

There would always be times we get hurt and we hurt our friend's not just physically but worse, emotionally. Imagine your very best friend in the whole wide world joking around about the most sensitive and truly embarrassing things about you in front of others? Surely it will hurt! It will make you want to grab a plateful of ants and shove it to their throats just to make then shut the F up! If this hadn't happened to you then be thankful and just don't do it to your friends. Annoyance is one of the top reasons why friends break up. As much as possible, speak not of any other but love.

KSQL - My friends at Work until now while I was teaching at DLSU-D

Rule #8 - Their success should make you feel more successful

A little friendly competition adds up spice to friendships but furiously competing and taking down your friends is not very friendly at any angle you may wish to look at it. Having friends cheering you up on your races and challenges is just so heartwarming it will encourage you more to be better and take on life! There should be no trace of envy for their success is also your success for behind every successful person, is a very supportive friend. Just as for me, every time I see my friends getting promoted or earning much more than I am, I feel deep joy for I know that as they take on their wings and soar up higher, my hands are with theirs and thus we fly upwards together for I am their friend. And besides, a wealthier friend is always the one that pays the tab! (HAHAHA KIDDING)

Rule #9 - Treasure Each and Every Moment You are with Them

Stronger friendships are those that have the sense of nurturing each other by being with them as much as possible and creating memories together. We'll never really know what will happen in the future but we can always do something to freeze every possible picture that we can with them. Our friends may live far from us, change planetary addresses, or live close to us until the end, we should remember that memories lasts a lifetime, or for some, beyond generations.

***

These are just nine rules of certainly a million rules on becoming a better friend. But of course, we don't need to write all of them because these rules are not written on law books or scribbled in our minds, friendship lives on our hearts. So what can we do to be a better friend? Be a Great friend to yourself and then you'll become a better friend.

***

Never Stop Loving!
Steven

This post is dedicated to all my friends from around the world for they just kept on coloring my life's book, my unwavering cheering squad, and simply bringing the best in me. Love you guys!

Etiquette For Mistresses

A Star Cinema production directed by Chito S. Rono starring Claudine Barretto, Iza Calsado, Cheena Crab, with Kim Chiu and Kris Aquino.

Taking away all bias especially the fact that I am a Kim Chiu and Claudine Baretto fan, I must say that this movie is EXEMPLARY. It is not your typical "KABITAN" Movie where it is all about Passion, Sex, and Lust, I can barely remember a kissing scene on this one. It's not just for mistresses who are currently living the life of one, but also for wives who are eager to learn more about who these women are, and most of all, for men, who should know "the other side" for men are the reason why there are women called mistresses.

The cast were absolutely amazing but I would have to give props to Iza Calsado who I think, personally, was not just assigned the most distressing but most beautiful character but acted it with so much perfection. Before anyone would say that this movie is "kabitan na naman yan", I urge you to try and watch it for yourself and then you will know how farfetched your impressions are with only and only the title as your basis.

Lastly, Thank you so much to my Ate Judy Lozares for taking me to this movie! For if not for her, I would have passed by a masterpiece (Yes, I am calling it a Chito Rono Masterpiece) and will surely watch this again before it is gone on the big screen.

My Starbucks Wall Update

2012. Christmas Day when I told myself and decided I will take on another adventure in my collecting hobby. I have been to several countries seeing them but it was just that day I told myself I will start collecting Starbucks Mugs.

My first ever mug was a 'Hong Kong' Icon Mug that I got from Hong Kong during my 22nd birthday trip. But I wasn't still starting that time and it really was for my brother in America who is actually collecting them. But when I and my cousins went to The District Imus, I decided to get my second cup, my 'Philippines' Icon Mug.

And now after almost 3 years of collecting, traveling and gifts from my dear friend and family, here you go, my Starbucks Wall of Mugs and Tumblers.

Steve's Starbucks Wall as of September 2015

As of this day, my collection is filled with so much love from my family and friends who dedicated these gifts to me and memories from all my adventures across Asia and America. A few more tumblers aren't on display since my shelves are almost full again but here is my display.

112 Starbucks Icon Mugs
32 Starbucks Icon Tumblers
24 Starbucks Specialty Tumblers
5 Starbucks Philippine Festival Tumblers
11 Starbucks City Relief Mugs
28 Starbucks You Are Here Mugs
4 Starbucks Pike Place Specialty Mugs
5 Starbucks Japanese Artsy Mugs
4 Starbucks Korean Artsy Mugs
1 Starbucks Indonesian Dancer Mug
4 Starbucks Miscellaneous Mugs
3 Starbucks Chinese Zodiac Mugs
4 Starbucks Demitasse

At first I really was just collecting Starbucks Icon Mugs but friends and family started giving me tumblers and mugs of other series so my collection just grew then on. Everytime I add up something, it just makes me feel so touched and delighted.

Each and every mug does not just represent a country or a price, it represents love. Love from all my travels, from my friends and family, and the memory that just goes with it and shall be with me for the rest of my life!

MORE MUGS TO COME!

All Too Well - Taylor Swift

Sometimes we give in to some things we wished and hoped for, never knowing if it really has the same ends to what we had in mind.

Sometimes we spend all our love to something or someone who we thought will be there no matter how things change or time flies.

Somebody who we were astounded as to how we wished someone as we pictured them in our every prayer.

Something oh something just did felt so real, and really! It was real.

Something just happens that that somebody just will never understand and there's just not something that somebody can do.

Somewhere, there is someone hurt, maybe both are hurt but there is always that somebody who's had it far worse.

Someday, somehow things might have appeared torn and broken up, but wishes it will all be better.

Though someday until the end, some memories may just be blurred out but some scars from some hurt will always be there, somewhere there.

Celebrating My First 10 Countries

When I was a kid, I would always dream about being somewhere other than the place I was in at that very moment. Whether it be the glaciers of Alaska or the deserts of the Sahara, I knew that I was made to travel, meant to see the world. So after college, I promised myself that I would do my best to live a life that would take me to places I can never imagine I will be in.

Five years after, I am still me, but 10 countries and a million memories more inside me. Let us all count down the first 10 countries I have visited outside the Philippines. Links on the stories will direct you to my special features about those places.

1. Thailand (2011)

Bangkok, Thailand

This was my very first time to travel without my parents and my first to another foreign country after 14 years. I went to Thailand with my cousin Judy and my College Classmate Ralph. We visited the capital City of Bangkok including Wat Benchamabopitr, Grand Palace, and so much more. Also the ancient City of Ayutthaya and it's temples. It was a great experience especially the shopping and the food.

2. Hong Kong (2012)

Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong

After visiting many islands on the Philippines during the later parts of 2011, Hong Kong was my next adventure. Together with my Cousins Judy and Jonjon and his family, we traveled around the city including main parts such as Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Ocean Park.

3. Macau (2012)

San Ma Lo, Macau

Just a ferry ride away from the Fragrant Harbour of Hong Kong, is Macau S.A.R. It is very nice mixing colonial with modernity, Macau has preserved it's fusion of Chinese and Portuguese culture and its development throughout the years. Ruinhas de Sao Paulo is a very iconic landmark in the country together with a lot of Casinos and Resorts that caters millions of tourists every single year.

4. Singapore (2012, 2013)

Sentosa, Singapore

My first trip to Singapore was with my highschool classmates. It was so much fun and we have visited so many places including Sentosa Park and Marina Sands. It was just a quick two day trip since we have to go to Malaysia on the third Morning.

Last 2013, a school trip to Singapore happened in the Month of May. The whole Computer Studies Department of DLSU-D, which I was a part of, joined several University visits and trips. National University of Singapore, Christie Technologies and Nanyang Technological University was a big part of the convention.

5. Malaysia (2012)

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

We spent another two night in the Malaysian Capital of Kuala Lumpur with my friends from Highschool. It was a happy trip as we visited several sights on the city including the Batu Caves and of course, the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

6. China (2013, 2014)

Beijing, China

It was my very first Winter, Northern China was spectacular especially with some snow on it. Together with my cousin Judy and my Dad, we traveled all around the cities of Beijing and Tianjin. In Beijing, we visited the Forbidden City, Ming Tombs and the famous Great Wall of China. after an hour train ride, we reached the City of Tianjin and explored the city for a day before leaving in the afternoon for Beijing.

Last November 2014, it was my second trip to the country but this time I visited the South Eastern part including the cities of Xiamen, Fuzhou, and Quanzhou where my grandfather lived. For two weeks, it was an amazing trip and unforgettable because aside from the beauty of the region, seeing my Chinese family is just a magical moment for me.

7. Japan (2013)

 Nagoya, Japan

With the greatness of my dearest Ate Minneth who is our family friend, I visited her in the Land of the Rising Sun. She was so gracious and we were so happy even if she is not feeling well. We went around the City of Nagoya where she lives with her family. Visited the Nagoya Castle, Nagoya Aquarium and so many more beautiful places! Also, I visited my amazing cousin Ate Carmina who was in Tokyo during that time. We visited Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace, Shibuya and Meiji Shrine.

8. Vietnam (2014)

Ben Tre, Vietnam

It was another twin country trip for me and my cousin Ate Judy but this time it was with my brother Wilson. We started our trip at the Vietnamese City of Ho Chi Minh where we did a lot of shopping and food tripping. We also visited the Mekong River Delta at the city of Ben Tre and cruised through the waters.

9. Cambodia (2014)

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The second leg of our Indochina twin country trip was in Cambodia. The Khmer Kingdom was filled with dusty roads, friendly people, and beautiful temples. Phnom Penh was our first stop during our long haul bus ride until we reached the Ancient Capital of Siem Reap. There was the famous Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples including The Bayon and Tah Prom.

10. United States of America (2015)

Hollywood, California

I kicked-off the start of my 25th year in the United States and it was awesome! Visited my brother in Hayward and traveled through the coastal cities of California including my favorite City of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. In San Francisco, I Celebrated my 25th Birthday being lost in a very good way. Also, I visited my classmate Paula on her sleepless but surprisingly peaceful City of Seattle in the state of Washington.

I visited 10 countries in just 4 years time and I am hoping and praying to the Lord that I get to see more countries in the next coming years and hopefully I can circle the globe setting foot on as many lands, smiling and laughing with as many people, and live more experiences and make them priceless memories.
